报告题目: Mid-Infrared laser-based diagnostics for chemical kinetic investigations

摘要:

Mid-infrared region contains strong fundamental vibrational bands of many species of interest. This region thus provides opportunities for highly sensitive and species-specific measurements for a variety of applications. Mid-infrared diagnostics can be developed based on interband cascade lasers (ICLs), quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) and lasers based on non-linear frequency conversion. This talk will discuss some recent work on the application of QCLs and a difference-frequency-generation (DFG) laser for quantitative, time-resolved species concentration and temperature measurements in complex chemically reactive environments.

First, a pair of pulsed QCLs, targeting the fundamental vibrational band of carbon monoxide, were utilized to make rapid measurements of gas temperature. The down-chirp phenomenon was exploited to achieve large spectral tuning within the laser pulse at a high repetition frequency. Second, the chirped-pulse strategy was combined with cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy to make trace measurements of carbon monoxide in low-temperature oxidation. Finally, difference-frequency-generation technique was implemented, combining a QCL and CO2 gas laser, to generate laser light in the C-H bending mode region near 13 – 15 mm. This enabled highly sensitive and selective measurements of aromatic species such as benzene.
